Meet Mr. Fred Crawford

GMC is excited to welcome Mr. Crawford as the new Principal/Executive Director. Mr. Crawford is a 30-year education veteran who has a proven track record of success in guiding charter schools.

He served as principal and chief executive officer at
Greenville Technical Charter High School. from 2002-2009. During his tenure, GTCHS became the first charter school in South Carolina to be named a National Blue Ribbon School. GTCHS was also honored as a National Charter School of the Year by the Center for Education Reform in 2007. In 2009, the school was named Palmetto’s Finest Award.
Mr. Crawford brought extensive knowledge of SC charter schools and public education to Legacy when he became Executive Director in July 1, 2012.  Mr. Crawford helped the school achieve national prominence in cognitive development and wellness of students, improved the academic achievement “value added” rating from 1 to 5, established teacher career advancement opportunities and performance payouts, and more than doubled student enrollments as the largest Title I school in the district.
Crawford has been active in education leadership and reform efforts at the state and national levels, including the Middle College National Consortium, Coalition of Essential Schools, Annenberg Principals Institute at Brown University and the Principals’ Center at Harvard University. He and his wife, Debra, have three children.

School Supply List
The list will be posted on the school website the week of July 30th so you can purchase items on tax-free weekend.
 
 Dress Code
There have been no changes to dress code this year.
 
 A detailed description of required dress for GMC students includes the following:
1. Khaki pants must fit at the waist. No other colors are accepted, only “khaki.” Sagging, baggy pants worn below the waistline are not allowed. Pant legs must not be baggy or oversized (as to cover shoes). Clothing must not drag the ground.
2. Shorts and skirts must be mid-thigh or below (longer).
3. All clothes must be neat and without rips, tears, or holes.
4. Overalls and jumpers are prohibited.
5. Solid colored GMC light blue, navy, or white golf/polo shirts with a collar and sleeves are required. The shirt may not have stripes, patterns, pictures, etc., printed on it. One very small logo may be present on the shirt. Shirttails must be tucked in at all times for all students. Short shirts that expose the midriff are not allowed. If a shirttail does not remain tucked in when hands are raised, the shirt is too short.
6. Undershirts of any color may be worn under the prescribed golf/polo shirt. However, undergarments other than undershirts should NEVER be visible.
7. Outerwear is defined as a jacket, coat, or sweater with ¾ or longer sleeves OR official GMC hoodie or official GMC sweatshirt. No other garments may be worn over the polo (vests, short-sleeve tops, trench coats), including ANY athletic hoodie or sweatshirt that is NOT official GMC gear. Outerwear must be official GMC gear OR solid GMC light blue, GMC navy, black, white, or gray with no stripes, patterns, pictures, etc. Logo on outerwear cannot be bigger than palm of hand. Denim jackets of any color are NOT allowed.
8. Footwear is to be worn at all times.
9. Facial jewelry other than the ears must be stud only.
10. Spiked bracelets or necklaces and chains are prohibited.
11. Head-coverings are unacceptable inside buildings.
12. No bandanas or rags.
13. Students are to remain in uniform at all times while on the school campus (GMC and GTC).
14. Any other personal appearance issue(s) that are deemed as a distraction to learning OR are outside the parameters of the representation of a GMC student will also be considered a violation of the dress code.

Service hours for the 18/19 school year began June 1.

GMC Carpool 18/19 School Year
Please complete the carpool form  if you are interested in car pooling for the upcoming school year. Parents may earn service hours for carpooling.  We will compile the list and send out to you mid July so you can start making arrangements.

2018-2019 Free and Reduced Lunch Applications

Sams Lunchroom Inventory Pickup
We are in need a of a couple of parents that could pickup bi-weekly Sam’s inventory and deliver to school. Parents may earn service hours for their time driving and picking up.  GMC places the order online, so it will be ready when you arrive.  We are flexible on the day of the week as long as its some time during the school day. Email Mrs. Timanus if this is something you are interested in helping with.

Sports Physicals- Time Change*
Sports physicals will be held at GMC on Monday, July 23rd 1:00pm-4:00pm. Due to our doctors schedules we have changed this from the previous time of 9am-12pm. We apologize for any inconvenience. Please bring $20 cash and all forms from the GMC Handbook. Due to current website issues if you need the paperwork please email Kelley Bailey. Concussion testing will begin at 10:00am-1:00pm for students who need this requirement. If you are unsure if you need this test please email Andrea Davis, adavis23@ghs.org, for confirmation.
Physicals dated April 1, 2018 to present are acceptable for the 2018-2019 school year. Any physical prior to that will need to be updated for the 2018-2019 school year. Please email Kelley Bailey with any questions.
Volleyball
Swim Team
Students interested in Swim Team should sign up for the Remind101 to receive important updates from our Swim Coach, Coach Amanda Aldrich. Text 81010 with the message @gmcswim. There will be an interest meeting in July for all interested students. Stay tuned!
Volunteer
Each family at GMC is required to volunteer 36 hours per school year at GMC. Parents may also donate items the school request through our Charter Barter Program and count them towards service hours. $10=1 service hour.
