If you have on Blazer apparel you do not have to pay for your shirt and pants are only $2. If you dress down and do not wear Blazer apparel it is the full $5. Langston Charter Middle School 1950 Woodruff Rd. (Behind the Goodwill Store) Enter gate near Gym, farthest building to the left. Then follow it around to the Picnic Tables.

We will have BBQ catered in for lunch, depending on how many folks eat, price will range between $7 and $9 per person, includes BBQ, 2 sides, Bread, Tea and Dessert.

Please let me know how many from your family plan to eat lunch with us-byThursday at 12:00PM, so we can confirm amount of food that we need to order.

There will be Picnic Tables for lunch, but you may want to bring a chair for after lunch at field.

If you are not planning on eating, we will begin award presentations at 1:45PM

Dress Down Friday! (5/10) — Free for DaddyMac’s BB!

***Daddy Mac’s BB receives a free dress down this Friday May,10th for returning the most enrollment packets by 5/3/2013!***

This “B” Friday (May 10th) will be a regular dress down day (PJ’s, lounge pants, sweat pants, etc. are not allowed). Underclassmen pay $2 for shirts and $3 for non-dress code pants. Seniors can pay $1 for shirts and $2 for non-dress code pants.

Notice: This is a clarification of the appropriate attire for Friday Dress Down Days. Holes in jeans are okay as long as they are below mid-thigh or you have leggings underneath. No skin above mid-thigh should be visible. Leggings are not pants and should not be worn alone. They may be worn under a skirt that is mid-thigh or longer. When the weather becomes warmer, it is important to remember that no undergarments should be visible. Consider the straps of shirts as you choose them. Students in violation will be required to fix the issue and will be assigned a lunch detention. We hope you will continue to respect the limited requirements for Friday Dress Down Days so we can continue to offer that privilege.

Baseball Banquet (5/13)

On Monday, May 13th at 7pm, there will be a Baseball Banquet at Laurenda’s in Greer. The address is 300 S. Line Street (Highway 101) Greer, SC. The cost will be $7 per person (not including children, theirs will be a separate price) which includes a drink, entree, two sides and they are providing a large sheet cake.

Senior Parents — Leave a Legacy

You have the opportunity to leave a legacy of your student’s time at Greer Middle College by purchasing a personalized brick. These bricks will be laid at the entrance of the ramp of the Administration building and will be moved to a prominent place at our new campus.

Personalized bricks are only $100. Use the attached order form and submit by Friday, May 10th if interested.

All profit will be placed in the restrictive building fund for the new campus. Thank you for your support!

GMC has been selected as a Hands on Greenville site again this year!

Mark your calendar for a fun day on May 4th! Volunteers work on projects here at school from 8am-12pm then head to Fluor Field for free vendor food, drinks and music!

If you are interested in supporting this huge volunteer event in the Greenville area while also receiving GMC service hours then this is for you!

Please respond by email to wmckinney@greermiddlecollege.org, as soon as possible, to receive details and the list of supplies to bring on May 4. Also in the email indicate your family’s t-shirt size(s) as you will not be admitted to Fluor Field without a HOG Day t-shirt (I order the shirts for our GMC volunteers).

Students must be supervised by parents while at GMC; this is not a drop-off workday! We need adults to help coordinate and oversee the work to be done on campus. It’s a lot of hard work but it’s a fun day, too!

GMC Students Participate in Capitol Day

Four representatives of GMC, Alyx Farkas, Diana Frank, Louis Kull, and Micah Williams attended the Fourth Annual Day at the State House on Wednesday April 10th. The South Carolina Chapter of Public School Options led the event. Students and sponsor, Kelley Smith, were able to see first hand the impact our Senators and Legistlators make for charter schools specifically. Freshman Alyx Farkas had the opportunity to speak in front of over 300 individuals on her experience at a charter school. GMC students were also given the privilige of meeting Superintendent Mick Zais and had lunch with Senator Tom Corbin. All participants had an amazing time advocating for School Choice and the opportunity to attend charter schools. As Alyx stated “charter students have really won the educational lottery.” A huge thank you to Beth Purcell for organizing such a wonderful event.

HSAP Testing (Apr. 16-18)

On April 16-18, all 10th grade students are scheduled to take the HSAP (High School Assessment Program) on April 16, 17, and 18. The HSAP consists of two tests- one in English language arts and one in mathematics-and are administered to public high school students in South Carolina under the requirements of state and federal laws. South Carolina law mandates that all public school students pass an exit examination as one requirement for receiving a high school diploma. Students are encouraged to get plenty of rest and arrive to school on time! Students will be directed to their testing classroom on test days.

Congratulations to Elijah Williams and Kari Bradford, these GMC student athletes were selected to the 2012-2013 Region 2-A All Region Basketball Teams!!!

Also, all coupon cards and money is to be turned into Coach Crenshaw (B29) by Tuesday, Feb 26th. Money and cards will be counted and redistributed for the remainder of the fundraiser.

The idea is to make you aware of the many ways for the students to complete their community service requirement. Unless noted, these emails are for information only and optional for students. Current Student Community Service Opportunities:

Student GMC Community Service Opportunity #1: This opportunity is to support Senior Asa Reini with his Senior Project. Please note: No more than 20 hours can be logged as GMC / school hours. Contact Asa Reini at email below if you want to help. My project is to maintenance the Greenville Tech. Nature Trail, located behind GMC, to prepare it for a 5K race and 1 mile walk. The purpose of the race/walk is to raise awareness of environmental issues in our community, and to raise funds for the Greer Eco-Action Team at GTC. The race is will hosted in the lower student parking lot of the high school, and this is also the meeting location for the Friday and Saturday. There are two aspects of my Senior Project in which I could really use volunteer help.First, with the trail work day on Friday, March 8th from 2:00-4:00pm. This would be manual labor on the nature trail in order to prepare it for the race. We will have a trailer full of tools, so please do not worry about that. Please come to school with a change of clothes.

Second, with the actual race day on Saturday, March 23rd where you would need to arrive between 6:00-7:00am. This day has a variety of positions, including: working the registration table, working the water station on the trail, working the water station in the parking lot, acting as a trail safeties (making sure people don’t injure themselves or cheat while on the course), and assisting with awards.

Student Community Service Opportunity #2: City of Greer Easter Event– kids Easter egg hunt. Students…. you can sign up for this community service opportunity on the bulletin board in the Guidance Office. The event is scheduled for Saturday, March 23 from 11-1. Volunteers would need to arrive by 10 am to receive assignments and get set up. If it rains, we will have the event on Sunday the 24th from 2-4 pm.

Spring Sports Parent Meeting (Feb. 19th)

There will be a spring sports parent meeting on Tuesday, February 19th at 6:30pm in the Cafeteria on GMC’s Campus.

Having a spring sports meeting is extremely beneficial to gain support as an athletic program. We all work together, and I would love to create an atmosphere in which every coach, player, and parent is on the same page. We will be going over administrative paperwork, sports fees, and player/parent/coach expectation. It will be a great time for you to meet the parents of your players if you have not done so already. I have found that this is also a great time to recruit “team moms/dads” to help with concessions, emailing, ticket taking, etc.

The basic agenda will be:

1. GMC Athletic Program Intro

2. Intro of Coaches, quick word from each of you

3. Admin/paperwork

4. Sports fees

5. Player/Parent/Coach Expectations

6. Team Expectations

7. Break out groups – parents and players will meet with their respective coaches for any other info

I would love to be able to go ahead and collect any and all paperwork at the meeting, as well as accept sports fees ($125). All forms can be found on the GMC website under the athletics tab:
