Absolute Monarch Poster Project & Presentations Due October 24/25
Project Agenda
Day One – 1. Monarch/Group assignments. Read the textbook pages covering your monarch and take notes
3. Complete the following nine vocabulary terms on the same paper:
Monarchy Divine Right Absolute Monarch Legitimacy
Balance of Power Constitutional Monarchy Enlightened Despot Czar
Day One Homework:
- Research your monarch
- Make a bullet form fact sheet that shows the monarch’s efforts, achievements, and/or events of his/her reign. It must include a total of at least 25 facts about the monarch’s reign.
Day Two – 1. Introduction to the major historical themes.
2. Organize the research on your monarch according to the 3 themes.
3. Summarize the historical significance of the monarch in one paragraph. (This will be included on
your poster)
Day Two Homework
- Collect materials needed for construction of your group’s monarch poster board.
Day Three -
Create your poster. Include EACH of the following project and plan your presentation
- Title, with a short catch phrase about the monarch (ie. “Mr. Gallion: Genius at Work”) (2 pts)
- Large center image (3 pts)
- 1 Paragraph detailing the historical significance of the monarch (You did this on day 2) (5 Pts.)
- 3 Separate sections with informational text based on the three principal themes. (10 Pts. Ea.)
- At least 3 illustrations / pictures should support each of these sections
- Timeline of the Top Ten most important events from the monarch’s reign (DO NOT INCLUDE birth & death date) (5 Pts.)
- Creativity: Make it a work of art! (Colors, shapes, designs, borders etc.) (5 pts)
Day Three Homework
- Finish poster
- Prep for presentations
Day Four - Group Presentations (25 pts)
Possible Points: Poster (50 pts.) + Presentation (25 pts.) + Homework (15 pts) + Classwork (10 pts.) = 100 pts!

Campaign Video Project Due November 1/2
Presidential Video Campaign Project
For this project, you will create a video campaign ad for a president in the history of the United States prior to 1970. Imagine that your candidate is running for an imaginary second or third (or further…) term. To accomplish this task, you must follow the following criteria:
1) Research Presidents
- You may choose any President prior to 1970, but no two groups may do the same President.
- Keep track of your sources – You will need to include them in your video!
- Have preliminary research done by our next class period. You will be given limited class time to work with your partner on step 2.
2) Create a Script – Your script should explain why your President deserves another term in office in light of the following:
- How he carried out the President’s roles – Specifically refer to at LEAST four of the roles and how he carried them out during his previous term(s) in office (See p. 354-355)
- How he handled Presidential Power in office – Read / skim p.393-408. This section gives an overview of the powers of the President. Explain how your President used at LEAST one of these powers.
- Consider Issues that would have been important to your President
- Include at least one quotation from your President – If you’re stuck, most State of the Union addresses are available online
- You will hand in your script!
3) Create a Video – Make the project!
- 3-5 Minutes. You will lose points for a project that is too short!
- Keep our attention! – Don’t be boring. Please.
- Include a Bibliography at the end – (Think “credits”)
- At least 5 sources
- 3 must be non-digital sources (book / magazine / etc.)
- Do not use sites like Yahoo! Questions, etc.
- Do not use Wikipedia
4) Show your Video – On _______ you will show your video in class.
- Consider using programs like Windows Movie Maker or Photo Story 3 (a free download from Microsoft) other programs are also fine.
- Finished products may be turned in via USB drive, CD, or e-mailed YouTube links. (Be sure not to set YouTube videos to private!)
