College Exploration/Research Assignment

Choose 1 college/university that you are considering attending following graduation.  For each college answer the following questions in each section.  Answers should be typed as a research paper or put into a PowerPoint format and a copy given to your Freshman Success teacher and or emailed to my address   (abrilliandt@greermiddlecollege.org).  Organize your paragraphs / slides into the following chunks:

I.  Admissions (10 points)

  • What are the required high school courses for admission?
  • What is the admissions index requirement for admission?
  • What are any additional requirements for admission?
  • What is the deadline to apply for Fall 2013 or 2014?
  • What is the application fee?
  • How do you contact the admissions office

 

II.  Academic Costs  (10 points) (If you will be going out of state, write down the non-resident rates.)

  • What is the annual (or semester) cost for one year of tuition (based on 15 credit hrs per semester)?
  • What is the annual (or semester) cost for one year of fees (based on 15 credit hrs per semester)?
  • What is the estimated annual cost (or semester) for book and supplies?

 

III.   Scholarships (10 points)

  • How do you contact the scholarship office?
  • Look up three scholarships from each college that you are interested and eligible to apply for.  For each of the three scholarships, answer the following questions:

-  When is the deadline (and if applicable the priority deadline)?

-  How do you get an application?

-  What type of scholarship is it?  (i.e. academic, leadership, departmental, etc.)

-  What are the eligibility requirements?

-  What do you have to submit?

IV.  Financial Aid (10 points)

  • What is the deadline (and if applicable the priority deadline) to apply?
  • What forms are required?  (i.e. FAFSA, etc.)
  • What type of aid is available?  (i.e. grants, loans, etc.)
  • Are there any additional requirements?

 

V.  Housing Costs (10 points)

  • What is the application deadline and fee for campus housing?
  • What is the average cost of on-campus housing?
  • What is the average cost of off-campus housing?
  • How do you contact the Housing Office?

 

VI.  Employment (10 points)

  • Is there a deadline to apply for on-campus employment?  If so, what is it?
  • What types of jobs are available on-campus and off-campus?
  • How do you contact the campus employment office?

 

VII.  Campus Visits (10 points)

  • What is the cost for a campus visit?
  • What are the requirements?
  • What campus visit options are there?  (i.e, campus tour, overnighter, attend class/activity with other students)
  • Who would you contact to set up a campus visit?

 

VIII.  Websites (10 points)

  • What is one unique or helpful feature you found on the school’s website?

IX.     Visual Appeal (10 points)
X.      WORKS CITED (10 points)
