Announcements

FRESHMAN PARENTS- Do you know what your child’s GPA will be if he/she scores an 80 in every class? Your child does. Do you know what GPA is required for LIFE Scholarship ($20,000+)? You child knows now. This week I had the opportunity to meet with all Freshman Success classes. We completed a GPA activity where I explained how to calculate a GPA using the SC Uniform Grading System. I showed the students the grade weights for college prep classes taken on our campus as well as college classes taken at GTC. We investigated the average GPA requirements for many of the universities in-state and out-of-state. My hope is this activity planted seeds about the connection of grades to college admissions to college scholarships. Ask you child to see a copy of the activity pages we completed the week of September13th. I appreciate the opportunity I have to work with your child!

SOPHOMORE PARENTS- The PSAT test will be given on our campus during the school day on Wednesday, October 13. This test is a great practice test that you can use as a predictor of success on the SAT. Your child will be given a practice booklet during the classroom guidance presentations the week of September 27th. The state department pays for the cost of this test. When score reports are returned after Christmas, I will host a parent meeting to explain test scores.

JUNIOR PARENTS- Your child will have the opportunity to take the PSAT. The fee for this test for juniors is $13.00. The PSAT is a great practice test that is used as a predictor of success on the SAT. Your child will be given a free practice test booklet. This test is given during the school day. A meeting to analyze scores will be scheduled in January.

JUNIOR PARENTS-Mark you calendars for College Question Night on *Tuesday,
Sept. 28* in Room 121 on the Greer GTC campus. Due to limited space, we will  offer two sessions. The first session will be for students whose last name begins with A-L at 5:30p.m. The 7:00p.m. session will be for students whose last name begins with M-Z. I will share information about upcoming COMPASS, PSAT, SAT and ACT testing as well as college requirements. Also, we will have a college admissions counselor to answer questions.
