Early College

The purpose of an early college program is both to prepare students for college and to give them a “jump start” on their college career. Greer Middle College (GMC) is a member of the Middle College National Consortium (MCNC) based out of New York. Located on the Greer campus of Greenville Technical College, GMC students have the opportunity to take college classes for dual credit, i.e. credit toward their high school diploma as well as a college degree. During the regular school year those classes are offered to our students free of charge. Students pay a minimal fee for summer school classes.

Typically the students will begin taking college classes after their freshman year and continue throughout the remainder of high school. One goal of MCNC members is that 80% of the graduates will successfully complete 24 hours of college credit before graduation. In addition, though it may require summer school, students do have the opportunity to complete an Associate Degree from Greenville Technical College upon graduation from high school. They then can transfer those two years of credit to a four year institution, thus saving both time and money.
